Admissions

Our Admissions Philosophy

The admissions process at Kingsman National Institute is intentionally holistic and comparative. We do not select students based on grades alone. We are seeking intellectually curious, resilient, and collaborative individuals who demonstrate a genuine passion for learning and a readiness to engage with our rigorous, cross-disciplinary environment.

We look for potential as much as achievement. We are interested in applicants who have the courage to ask difficult questions and the tenacity to pursue answers, even when it means grappling with ambiguity or facing intellectual setbacks. Our review process considers every part of your application—your academic record, your personal statement (the ‘KNI Essay’), letters of recommendation, portfolios (where applicable), and your performance in the interview. We are building a community of thinkers, and every applicant is assessed for their potential to contribute to, and benefit from, that community.

Senior School Admissions (Ages 16+)

Entry to our Senior School (for A-Level or IB Diploma study) is highly competitive and based on academic merit and personal character.

  • Academic Requirements: Applicants are expected to present outstanding transcripts from their current or previous school (e.g., strong GCSE, IGCSE, MYP results, or national equivalent).
  • Entrance Assessment: All shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for entrance assessments in English (Language and Critical Analysis) and Mathematics. A subject-specific assessment may be required depending on intended A-Level/IB Higher Level choices.
  • Personal Interview: The final stage is an interview with a senior member of faculty. This is a conversation, not an interrogation. We want to understand how you think, what motivates you, and how you engage with ideas that are new or challenging to you.

Undergraduate Admissions (BA, BSc, BEng)

We welcome applications from students graduating from our own Senior School and from high schools around the world.

  • Academic Requirements:
    • A-Levels: Predicted (or achieved) grades of A*AA to AAB, depending on the programme. Mathematics is required for all STEM and Economics programmes.
    • IB Diploma: A minimum of 38 points overall, with specific Higher Level subject scores (e.g., 7,6,6) required for certain programmes.
    • Other Curricula: We recognise a wide range of international qualifications (e.g., US Advanced Placements, European Baccalaureate, Greek Apolytirion) and will assess them for equivalence.
  • The KNI Essay: In place of a standard personal statement, we require applicants to submit the KNI Essay (1,000 words). The prompt changes annually but always asks applicants to synthesize ideas from different disciplines to address a complex modern problem, allowing us to assess your analytical and creative thinking.
  • Portfolio (Design & Visual Arts): Applicants to the School of Design & Visual Arts must submit a digital portfolio of 15-20 pieces of recent work. We look for technical skill, creative risk-taking, and a clear developmental process (including sketchbook pages).
  • Faculty Interview: Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a 30-minute interview with a faculty member from their chosen department to discuss their academic interests and the KNI Essay.

Postgraduate Admissions (MA, MSc, MRes, PhD)

Admission to our postgraduate programmes is managed by the individual faculties and is based on proven academic excellence and research potential.

  • Academic Requirements: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university, typically with First Class or high Upper Second-Class honours (or a GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher).
  • Taught Masters (MA/MSc): Admission is based on academic transcripts, two academic references, and a personal statement outlining your motivation and suitability for the programme.
  • Research Masters (MRes) & PhD: These are the most competitive programmes. In addition to the above, applicants MUST submit a detailed Research Proposal (approx. 2,000 words). This proposal must identify a clear research question, review the relevant literature, outline a proposed methodology, and align with the research interests of a potential supervisor on our faculty. Admission is contingent on finding a suitable and available supervisor.

International Students

Kingsman National Institute is an English-medium institution. All instruction, coursework, and assessments are conducted in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency, typically via an IELTS (Academic) score of 7.5 overall (with no less than 7.0 in any component) or a TOEFL iBT score of 110 (or equivalent). We provide comprehensive support for international students navigating the Greek student visa and residency permit process.
